He still lives.

Mumbai gunman Qasab appeals in India Supreme Court

Well the Indian justice system lives up to its name as the terrorist Qasab still lives. This man was caught in 2008 and convicted in 2010 and now 2 years later he appeals again that he was not allowed a fair trial. This is a great test to the democracy this country stands for as law would state he is allowed to get a case but this would take time. Once the decision is made we can move further with the case. But if the decision is against qasab he gets clemency from the president. For those who don’t know quasab was convicted with murder. As around 150 people died and this young man was caught with a gun. But at this rate It looks like he might still survive a few years.

Vocab 1

Commuted: Reduce (a judicial sentence, esp. a sentence of death) to one less severe.

b) to make a substitution or exchange

In most cases capital offences are commuted to life imprisonment.

In Woodstock the food is usually comutted by noodles.

Vocab 2

Terrorist: A person uses terrorism in the pursuit

Qasab was found guilty in Mumbai on 3 May 2010 of murder, terrorist acts and waging war on India and was sentenced to death.

After coming back from activity week in 9th grade all the student were put to shock as our school was put under terrorist attack.

Vocab 3

Clemency: Mercy, lenience

If Qasab loses his appeal, he can make a plea for clemency to the president.

In the good old days of Woodstock all teachers use to show mercy to students but in modern times one has beg for clemency from the authorities.

One of my favorite bollywood movies was about the terrorist attacks in Mumbai. The movie was called “Wednesday”. It was about how a common man took it into his own hands to kill the terrorists in Indian jail. As the movie to route to its climax the common man said something which never left my mind. The man said if one us (common people) want to kill a terrorist the government is all after us telling us to follow the law and it seem alright for one of them to kill 150 and be protected in a government jail. This way of life may last a while but soon there will be a day when the common people will get angry and rowdy and protests will occur.

well it's actually hard work...;)

Ten things you do when you procrastinate

1) Well the first thing I do when I procrastinate is convince myself that yes I can do I later and no matter what I will do it later but right now I have something very important to do.

2) After that process is done I find something to do. First switch my laptop on and then go to cook some noodles and check what is coming on the television

3) If there’s something good I go back to my room and start a download which should be ready by the time the movie on television is over.

4) Watch the movie eat the noodles and then leave the dish in the sink for someone else to clean.

5) Then call my parents on the phone talk for a while

6) Go outside talk with friends and play some sort of sport or game

7) Come back to the room complain about the work along with your friends

8) Make promise with friends that we will finish the work which would take all night

9) Make a lot of coffee and get to work

10) Now while working you give your complete attention to the project which was give 2 weeks ago. Its late you make a lot of errors so you decide wake up the next morning and correct them. But you wake up late and hand in a late or an incomplete assignment. Then later in dorms you make a promise to yourself this shall never happen again. But you stay true to the saying promises are made to be broken.

Murder in the name of honor.

one two..three.. four...

Three Canadian citizens who are immigrants from Afghanistan were convicted guilty of the so called honor killing that they committed. There were three bodies found in Ontario. The body was of three teenage girls. The girl’s mother, father and brother have been given twenty five years of prison. The father had denied the girls wanted choose their own boyfriend and go against their own values therefore this offended their father and he decided these young women don’t deserve to live. Very clear evidence shows us that the father was angry and in one of recording he referred to his daughters as whores. While other clear evidence such as four bodies being found near where they had travelled and the decision to murder was taken after the 19 year old girl decided to take shelter somewhere else. The mother who was also found dead wanted to support their daughters and she too was murdered.

Vocab 1

Prosecution: The institution and conducting of legal proceedings against someone in respect of a criminal charge.

The prosecution alleged Mohammed, Tooba and Hamed drowned their four victims, placed their bodies in the car and then pushed it into the canal with the family's other car.

In Woodstock school we should start a system where there are defenders and prosecutors. This system would be there to defy the big decisions for example we need the food to be better most probably the a student would be on the side which agrees and the one of Narang’s men on the defending. The jury to be the judge

Vocab 2

Notion: A conception of or belief about something.

The apparent reason behind these cold shameful murders was that four (victims) offended your twisted notion of honour,

It was made clear to me in ninth grade that student council of woodsock school actually has power is a deceiving notion.

Vocab 3

Verdict: An opinion or judgment.

After the verdict was read out, Mohammad Shafia, speaking through a translator

After the verdict on some major rule breaking events in Woodstock school even breaking the minor rules can get one in to immense trouble.

Clearly these “honor killings” need to stop. Atleast there are some new and old movies touching on this subject which helps the public get aware. In a very menial way does the move called the girl wih the dragon tattoo I touches this subject. The movie is about many girls who get killed for being jews. This was done by a former nazi and his son. They actually took pride in doing this heinous act. But luckily all was sorted and people were happy, the end.

What the crash!

CRASH

The ship Costa Concordia crashed on thirteenth January. The ship sank because the captain had it too close to the island and other reports have said that the captain did not follow the route given to him. The captain of the ship left on the life boat before helping the passengers and might be charged with manslaughter. The ship wreck rescue team have confirmed thirteen dead people and still looking for twenty missing people. The victims seem to be from all over Europe as few were identified to be from; Germany, France, and Italy. A woman yet to be identified could be one of the illegal passengers on board. Weather has caused the delay of the rescue mission before but now the navy and the coast guard is determined to search the sunken vessel. This devastating incident is still to be completely sorted out.

Vocab 1

One official said swift action was needed to remove the fuel. An Italian naval vessel is on standby as a precaution should there be an oil leak

Precaution: A measure taken in advance to prevent something dangerous, unpleasant, or inconvenient from happening.

Precautions must be taken to avoid another zero in the journal grade, therefore this sentence is being read by you.

Vocab 2

Coastguard and navy divers have been blasting their way into submerged areas of the vessel using explosives in an effort to find those unaccounted for.

Submerged: Cause to be under water.

The hills where Woodstock is was once submerged, the ripples on the stone near JB2 are evidence for that statement.

Vocab 3

Correspondents say they are under time pressure, amid fears the ship could slip off a ledge into deeper water with a risk of fuel tanks being ruptured.

Correspondents: A person who writes letters to a person or a newspaper, esp. on a regular basis.

The correspondents from tiger news update the world on what’s happening in Woodstock daily, this is good for the alumni.

This ship wreck reminds me of things that we learned about leadership. Cleary the captain did not fulfill his duties so why was he trusted? All these people were put on a ship and trusted the authorities to choose the correct captain. So why did the authorities choose this captain? And now he is under house arrest until further investigation is done. One thing is for sure he should not be a captain anymore as he did not do his duty and if it was his fault he should be put in prison for life. But clearly some action needs to be taken or lot of future captains and leaders will take this positions for granted. Just like in the French revolution there were different leaders if one could not do great then they simply replaced by the other.

World Peace?oh...just for one day!

On September 21, call a global truce By Jeremy Gilley

World peace what an idea? Well some people put this idea to action. It would be utopia without war and human suffering so an organization known as “peace one day”. The dreams of many would come true for a day and maybe this day to go down in history. Peace day agreements in Afghanistan has helped so many an astounding four million children were saved from polio. The UN recorder seventy percent peace rate in Afghanistan which is a record. Now in 2012 I is requested for all the world members to be part of global truce day everyone is requested to take part in a global truce. This day needs help and to succeed needs our help the common people’s help.

{(www.peaceoneday.org) join the campaign}

Vocab1 and Vocab 2

I don't believe in cynicism, in apathy; it doesn't get you anywhere.

cynicism An attitude of scornful or jaded negativity,

When Activity-Week came around this year and we found out that were all going to a camp there was cynicism in the air.

apathy Lack of interest or concern, especially regarding matters of general importance or appeal

The school board has shown great apathy in the matter of Woodstock's food.

This is a great idea of having global truce and helping out the needy. I personally have been thinking about world peace a lot since the school i come from discusses it from time to time. This day could be the first baby step to a peaceful world.it's good to know there are still belivers out there and I will join them in this protest for peace. If one day could do so much good, just wonder how much good can be done with complete peace?

for the sake of writing...

Were not alone, it’s not possible. Someone must be out there humans cannot be the only ones in existence in this universe or maybe even earth. My simple belief in this is that every great story comes from experience. There have been many great stories on supernatural things. One could write spirits and ghosts off as absurd things. But I believe such things exist they have to. History can certainly help my case. If you have never heard of rasputeen the Russian man who was considered to have some sort of supernatural powers. Legend says that Rasputin could predict the future with very great accuracy. In exchange for the advice he used to take sex. Soon he got into the bad books of tsar and Rasputin was put to death. They shot him and drowned him but he survived all of that and its said he died of an heart attack or something else. But when I was sitting in history class listening about him it shocked me and slowly I started to believe that we are not alone there are things out there. I would prefer it as believing that the creatures or substance s are there, but not to harm us. This kind of thing is abstruse. We are not alone but for now we are certainly superior. This question all depends on how much faith you have. I have complete faith that these sorts of things exist and instead of ignoring it we should accept it and make it a part of ourselves, we should learn to live with it. But this is my personal view and others don’t have to believe that. But the curiosity will get the better of man and make them wonder “are we alone”.

well it all depends on the rules..?

6) Three wishes
The last time I really gave thought to this question which has abound answers was in fifth grade. But the fascination of the question has abraded since those good old days. I have instead acclimated to not knowing the answer instead. Yet there is obviously one wish that always comes to mind and it makes me wonder if it’s against the rules to just wish for another thousand wishes. Yes that would be my first wish of the original three to get a thousand wishes. My second wish would be for world poverty to end. Yes this may sound cliché but its only because I have another thousand wishes to get all the riches and other things in the world therefore my second wish would be to end world poverty. I imagine if poverty is put to an end then we could get something close to a utopian world. This world would not have to me a communist one but a democratic one. The third wish would simply be all the happiness for my family and friends. Now the these three wishes would be my original wishes and I would obviously have a thousand wishes left for myself. With everything going good in the world I would make another great wish which is worth a mention and it would be to show god if there is one. This would ultimately answer the question of faith and of heaven or hell. This would finally be the day we find out if religion is the greatest prank played by humans or the greatest thing that happened to humans. I am never against any religion but some of the followers of that religion do disgust me as they would kill to prove there peaceful religion is correct. These wishes obviously being that the first wish will be allowed but if not the wishes would be different and the question would be on another level.

Food for thought...just kidding =)

7) What advice does the teenage-you have for your future 35-year-old self?
Dear future Kautilya by the age of 35 if you will need to read your advice which you gave when you were seventeen years old, you should get help. That being said now looking at present day problems of people your age it would seem to me that you have money or relationship problems. Well as a gentle reminder I must tell you that our first aim is to be rich and have enough money to enjoy life. Since you are reading this you should know what the teenage you considered an enjoyable life to be. The first thing you should have enough money to attend a world cup which would be around soon and by this age you should have already seen some. And as a Chelsea fan you should be watching the season games regularly. You should be enjoying with friends and not forgetting family. Well by now I expect you to have chosen a religion or created one. The past you really suggests; a faith as it does seem to an important part of your life. Remember you are satisfied with your money and your confused go to Woodstock school. Now that school is where your child hood was and you love it there. Now if this is not the advice you’re looking for relationship advice well that’s easy. If you’re married that’s game over and teenage me is disappointed in you. Just remember future Kautilya none of these things really matter if you are truly happy. I doubt that eighteen years from today a person who is not rich could be happy looking at the economy it seems as if the world is going to be filled with expenses. Just remember have fun, no matter what happens.
